Colin Castleton

Colin Castleton recorded a double-double on Sunday with 21 points (8-for-13 FGs), 14 rebounds, three assists and one steal in a 93-75 win over Charlotte.

Castleton continued his dominant Summer League run in this game with another big time performance. He owned the paint on Sunday and recorded his first double-double of the summer. Castleton went undrafted out of Florida, but he joined the Lakers on a two-way deal. His play so far probably won’t earn him NBA minutes this season, but he is showing that he belongs in the league.
D'Moi Hodge

LAL Shooting Guard

D’Moi Hodge posted a full line on Sunday with 16 points (6-for-11 FGs), five rebounds, two assists, one steal, two blocks and two 3-pointers against the Hornets.

Hodge had been relatively quiet through their first three games, but he scored in double figures for the second straight game and set a new scoring-high for the summer. Hodge went undrafted out of Missouri, but he has continued to improve in each game this summer. He may not ever be relevant in fantasy basketball, but he’s making strides to earning a roster spot in the NBA, as opposed to spending the majority of his two-way contract in the G-League.
Colin Castleton

Colin Castleton played 28 minutes in Friday’s 103-96 win over Golden State, recording a line of 13 points (4-of-5 FGs, 5-of-8 FTs), seven rebounds, six assists, two steals, and one blocked shot.

Castleton, who also played well in the Lakers’ loss to the Spurs on Wednesday, was just as impactful on Friday. While the 6-foot-11 center did his job as a finisher, rebounder, and defender, he was also responsible for a team-high six assists. Castleton has proven to be a solid secondary playmaker, displaying the ability to make plays either as the roll man or out of the post. Like Max Christie, he faces a tough battle for rotation minutes due to the number of signings the Lakers made early in free agency. Castleton’s short-term fantasy prospects may not be great, but he’s someone who could develop into a contributor down the line.
Cole Swider

Cole Swider shot 5-of-8 from three in Friday’s 103-96 win over Golden State, posting a line of 19 points (7-of-14 FGs) and two rebounds in 26 minutes.

Swider, who agreed to a two-year, two-way contract before the start of last season, is best known for his perimeter shooting ability. And that was on full display Friday night, as he shot 62.5% from deep and offered little else in the way of production. With the Lakers re-signing Rui Hachimura and adding Taurean Prince in free agency, Swider’s path to credible playing time is anything but clear at this point in time. Even if he builds on his effort in Friday’s win over the Warriors, Swider won’t be a player who fantasy managers should be considering come draft time.
Max Christie

Max Christie shot 6-of-11 from the field and 7-of-7 from the foul line in Friday’s 103-96 win over the Warriors, finishing with 22 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and three 3-pointers in 31 minutes.

After playing well in the Lakers’ two games at the California Classic to begin the week, Christie carried that production over into the team’s run in Las Vegas. After playing sparingly as a rookie, the 2022 second-round pick has the look of someone ready to truly fight for rotation minutes. That said, the Lakers added multiple veterans to their roster in free agency, which could make this task a difficult one for Christie in the fall. Whether or not he can crack Darvin Ham’s rotation when training camp begins, the Lakers have to be pleased with what they’ve seen from Christie thus far this summer.
Colin Castleton

Colin Castleton posted a line of 18 points (6-of-10 FGs, 6-of-7 FTs), eight rebounds, six assists, and four blocked shots in Wednesday’s 109-99 loss to the Spurs.

Castleton, who started and played 33 minutes, is on a two-way contract. With that being the case, locking down a rotation spot once the season begins will be a difficult task for the rookie. However, the defensive mobility and rim protection were on full display on Wednesday, and he also played well in his summer debut on Monday. Castleton is unlikely to be a fantasy asset this upcoming season, but he’s a big who’s worth tracking for the future.
Max Christie

Max Christie logged 31 minutes in Wednesday’s 109-99 loss to San Antonio, recording a line of 25 points (7-of-13 FGs, 7-of-8 FTs), four rebounds, four assists, one steal, one block, and four 3-pointers.

Christie and rookie Jalen Hood-Schifino handled most of the lead guard duties on Wednesday, and both had good nights despite the defeat. While Christie led the Lakers in scoring, Hood-Schifino added 20 points (8-of-17 FGs, 4-of-7 FTs) along with three rebounds, four assists, and one steal. JHS was also responsible for five turnovers, but that isn’t surprising given the lack of NBA experience. He and Christie will have a tough fight on their hands once training camp begins as far as earning rotation minutes is concerned, but the Lakers think highly of both players. The upcoming season may not be their time, but Christie and Hood-Schifino have promising futures.

Max Christie played 32 minutes in Monday’s 107-90 loss to the Heat, accounting for 17 points (6-of-11 FGs, 4-of-4 FTs), six rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one 3-pointer.

While Christie only played 12.5 minutes per game (41 appearances) as a rookie, he’s a player the Lakers have high hopes for. And he looked comfortable in the Lakers’ California Classic opener, shooting better than 50% from the field while also contributing as a rebounder and playmaker. The Lakers are an older team, so playing time could once again prove difficult to come by this season. But Christie is a player to keep an eye on, especially if he’s able to crack Darvin Ham’s rotation.
Jalen Hood-Schifino

LAL Shooting Guard

Jalen Hood-Schifino shot 6-of-19 from the field and 3-of-3 from the foul line in Monday’s 107-90 loss to the Heat, accumulating 15 points, five rebounds, four assists, one steal, and three turnovers in 29 minutes.

The 17th-overall pick in last month’s draft, Hood-Schifino started his California Classic debut for the Lakers. He had a tough go of it shooting the basketball, missing all five of his 3-point attempts, but the playmaking ability was on display. With the Lakers adding Gabe Vincent and re-signing D’Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves, getting those opportunities on the ball could prove difficult for Hood-Schifino this season. From a fantasy standpoint, his name may be one that managers look to file away for the future as opposed to expecting big things this season.
Lonnie Walker IV

LAL Shooting Guard #4

Lonnie Walker IV has signed a one-year deal with the Nets, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Walker IV had a disappointing tenure in San Antonio, but his career got a shot in the arm with a strong playoff showing for the Lakers. He’ll join a young Nets team and look to keep the positive momentum going from last season as a reliable contributor off the bench.
