Cameron Young kept his foot on the gas with a 7-under 65 on day two of the John Deere Classic, climbing into a three-shot lead after wave one of the second round.
The power hitter entered the week in sub-par form by his standards. He had finished outside of the top 50 in six of his last seven starts. He’s flipped the script this week with 15 birdies through 36 holes (best in the field). Young went back to the ball that he played all of last year and that is certainly working out for him so far. He also talked about the chemistry between him and “new” caddie Paul Tesori, “I feel like we’re really getting there. We’ve had our really good and really bad moments I feel like. All in all, it’s been amazing, and he works so hard and knows so much that he has turned into a huge resource for me, even in this short period of time. I trust him.” If this lead holds then it would be his first time holding a 36-hole lead or co-lead on the PGA Tour.

Scott Piercy withdrew from the John Deere Classic prior to his second-round tee time, citing a back injury.
Piercy opened his week with a 5-over 76 that put him well outside of the cut line. He’s now been a mid-tourney WD in two straight events (Travelers Championship). Piercy started the week just 124th in the FedExCup race, 54 spots outside of the Playoffs bubble.

Grayson Murray raced out to a 7-under 64 on day one of the John Deere Classic, just two shots off the torrid pace set by Jonas Blixt.
Murray is spending most of his time on the Korn Ferry circuit, landing a win and third-place finish over the last month and a half. That has freed him up to alleviate some of the pressure that would normally come with going up a tier to the PGA Tour. “I’m in a good position out there to lock up my card here soon, and I felt like coming out here with an opportunity to kind of double-dip, as you could say, and play a little more free knowing that my card is pretty much locked up out there.”

Jonas Blixt rocketed out of the gate with a 9-under 62 to claim the clubhouse lead after wave one of the John Deere Classic.
Blixt is playing just his ninth event of the season and he arrived with just a single top-60 on his resume. This round was a surprise to most gamers and also a surprise to Blixt himself, “At this point when you don’t have that much confidence in your game and you find something, you just kind of go out and see where you swing at it, and that’s what happened. I mean, 62 doesn’t happen very often on the PGA TOUR, at least not for me.” He gained a massive 5.2 strokes on approach today. This will go in the books as his second time holding a first-round lead or co-lead on the PGA TOUR (T35/2014 Greenbrier Classic).

Brian Gay had withdrawn from the field ahead of this week’s John Deere Classic. He will be replaced by the next alternate, Tommy Gainey.
The straight shooter has been splitting his time between the PGA TOUR and Champions Tour, with a WD last week at the U.S. Senior Open. He’s just 2-for-8 on the big stage this season with one top 50, a T11 at the Bermuda Championship. Gamers can keep him off their fantasy radar.

Luke List removed his name from the field on Tuesday ahead of this week’s John Deere Classic. He will be replaced by the next alternate, Scott Brown.
List was an early exit in Detroit due to a foot injury. He won’t be ready to return just a few days later. The Vanderbilt product is just 115th in the FedExCup race so he’ll surely be itching to return whenever his foot allows him.

Adam Hadwin steadied a bogey-free, 5-under 67 in the final round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, ending the week on 24-under 264 which put him in a three-man playoff with Collin Morikawa and Rickie Fowler with Fowler winning on the opening hole.
The Canadian split just 8-of-14 fairways but managed 16 GIR, gaining nearly three strokes on approach in the final round. For the week, he ranked 10th in that approach category but the putter was the key weapon. He gained 9.8 strokes putting on the week, second best in the field. Hadwin didn’t walk away with a win but still enjoyed the week, “I’m stoked, I’m through the roof right now. I mean, I got myself into a playoff at the end of the day, that’s what you want. You want a chance, you want a chance to win a golf tournament and I guess I kind of had a chance coming up 18, an outside chance.”

Collin Morikawa made a big Sunday surge at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, firing a bogey-free, 8-under 64 to reach 24-under 264, playing his way into a three-man playoff which was won by Rickie Fowler on the opening hole.
Morikawa started four shots off the pace but saved his best for last at Detroit Golf Club. He piped 14-of-14 fairways and landed 16 GIR. The putter warmed up too, with 3.2 strokes gained with the flat stick. “This is kind of how the golf I wanted to play. Today I thought I played really well, first three days I thought it was pretty mediocre. It’s kind of the old Collin hopefully back, just knowing that we’re going to keep it in front of myself, give myself some looks, and when putts go in and shots are a little closer we have days like today. It will be really exciting for me I think heading to The Open.” Morikawa opened the calendar year with back-to-back podiums but this is his first top-5 finish since then (12 starts in between).

Overnight leader Rickie Fowler closed his week at the Rocket Mortage Classic with a 4-under 68, and then took care of business in a three-man playoff to hoist the trophy, winning his first event since 2019.
Fowler gave plenty of hints that a win was on the way. He arrived with top 15s in eight of his previous nine starts. “It’s just nice to have this one out of the way. I’m obviously going to soak this one in and celebrate a bit. Yeah, it’s just been a long road.” This will go in the books as his sixth win on the PGA Tour but first since the 2019 WM Phoenix Open. He had fallen outside of the top 150 in the OWGR during the slump but now finds himself at 23rd in the world. “You never really know with this game. You definitely learn to appreciate the good times and when you’re playing well. Yeah, you hope the struggles don’t last, but sometimes they last longer than you would hope for.”

Overnight co-leader Taylor Moore twirled a 5-under 67 in round two of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, keeping his name at the top of the board ahead of the weekend.
Moore’s ball-striking was not up to the task today (just 8 fairways, 13 GIR) but he made up for it with a strong short-game showing. He walked off the course gaining 3.9 strokes putting. “I feel like I’ve hit good putts and they just didn’t go in for those couple weeks, kind of just chalked it up to that. Answering his question, not really panic, just doing what I do and eventually they’ll fall in. Seem to fell the last couple days.” This will go in the books as his first time holding a 36-hole lead or co-lead on the PGA TOUR.
